"A Kiss From Tokyo" was the first movie to star International Girl of Mystery Yuki 7. Made in 1964 amid the spy culture craze that followed the worldwide success of "Dr. No", it launched the career of Kimiko Suzuki who would go on to play Yuki 7 in several more spy films.
This is the first poster I've done in the series - what do you all think? I think I finally settled on the name Yuki 7 for our hero, but it could still change. |

Yeah: martinis, 60's hair-do's, mini dresses, guns, space shuttles, half nakedness...what's not to love?? |

I`ve been visiting your blog for a while now because I love your style! It is inspiring, cool and funny as well.
In my opinion this poster is well balanced but there is no focal point. Or: for me the focal point is the type and rest is equal.
And I also think "Yuki 6" sounds cooler - but maybe 7 looks more interesting when it is written.
Are you also the author of this story? Or IS there already a story?
All the best!

hi Kevin
beautiful and as always inspiring.
I love the loose "Bob Peak" style brush work in the background. So much digital art is too slick and lifeless but your style has a real warmth and energy.
Heres a title suggestion for one of Yuki 7's movies.
How about "Tokyorama". (a future city mentioned in the movie Alphaville).

oh man this is awesome
reminds me a little bit of the Criterion "Tokyo Drifter" artwork as well
btw, ever see the Roman Coppola film, "CQ"? |

Will Kane October 14, 2008 - 04:23 AM

I cannot stress enough how fabulous "CQ" is, everyone should see it.
'CQ" was the gateway drug to all my current obsessions. |

thanks everyone for the nice comments!
patrick - thanks for the observations. i'll think about yuki 6, you might be right that it sounds better. and yes i'm the creator of this story.
edward - the bob peak comparison is too flattering! he's one of my favorite artists so i'm glad you can see some of that influence coming through.
mark & will - i LOVE CQ. it had a big influence on me.
thanks again everyone, i'll have more posters soon! |

WOW that`s cool! As for my experience - it is one of the rare things in art that someone is both talanted in illustration AND in storytelling. Or is it just a specific characteristic for artists in germany to have "only" one talent? |

Great, great poster, Kevin! I don't know what it is about the combo of graphics and illustration and text--but damn, does it work! Awesome! |

Great!!
Did you ever consider making one of the Os of Tokyo into a mouth to illustrate the "kiss"? (Not saying it would make it better, just asking...) |

Beautiful stuff, once again. I take it you're aware of the films of Reiko Ike? If not, seek them out immediately! |
